A Hollywood Police Department officer has been charged with a crime involving the shooting of a man who was seriously injured, Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor announced.

Henry Andrews, 49, is charged with one count of culpable negligence, inflicting actual personal injury, a first-degree misdemeanor. According to the information filed by prosecutors, Andrews shot Michael Ortiz on July 3, 2021, inflicting physical injury.

The offense carries a maximum possible penalty of up to one year in jail.

The investigation was handled by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant State Attorneys Chris Killoran and Kayla Bramnick are handling the case.

The defendant’s attorney accepted service of the not-in-custody summons on Thursday. Arraignment by Broward County Judge Robert F. Diaz is currently scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.
