Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor increases starting salary for new prosecutors to $68,000
July 10, 2023
Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor is increasing the starting salary for new assistant state attorneys to a record $68,000 plus benefits.
“I am proud to offer this increased salary to our new assistant state attorneys, making it a very competitive starting salary for people who want to work in the public service sector in South Florida,” State Attorney Pryor said. “After countless meetings with our Florida legislative leaders, our collective advocacy focused on the hiring crisis in the public service sector has proven effective in securing across-the-board raises for our public servants who are dedicated to justice and keeping our community safe.”
“I am grateful that the State Legislature and Governor recognized the need to provide additional salary dollars for these attorneys and staff members who want to work in the public sector. These pay increases allow us to better compete with private firms and other government agencies and address the increased cost of living in Florida.”
All staff members received a 5 percent increase, effective July 1, to address elevated inflation and provide a competitive pay adjustment. Assistant state attorneys are also receiving a special pay increase this year. State Attorney Pryor remains committed to exploring financially responsible and sustainable options that will maximize salaries for assistant state attorneys and support staff to assist with retention and recruitment.
In an effort to remain competitive with pay, recruit quality prosecutors, and retain our dedicated prosecutors, the State Attorney has decided to use the special pay increase allocation to raise the starting salary for newly hired ASAs, raise the salary floors for existing prosecutors, and provide an additional percentage raise to each prosecutor. Those raises range from 10 percent for junior prosecutors to one percent for veterans, effective Aug. 1.
Starting salaries for prosecutors are increasing from the current level of $60,000 to $68,000, which is a 13.3 percent increase, with a benefits package worth more than $40,500. (The median household income for Broward County is $64,522, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.)
