Free training opportunity to fight elder abuse

Stop sign with elder abuse in writing

November 17, 2021

The Broward State Attorney’s Office Elder Abuse Task Force has relaunched its free training sessions on how to detect, prevent and prosecute elder abuse cases.

This training is for members of law enforcement and others, including social workers, guardians ad litem, ombudsmen, victim and patient advocates, adult protective services workers, who provide services to the senior community.

The one-day training session focuses on the signs of elder abuse, interviewing the elderly, prosecution of physical and financial abuse of the elderly, proper report writing, case scenarios, and resources for the elderly community.

Members of the agency’s Elder Abuse Task Force recognized the need and worked with our law enforcement partners to put together a comprehensive training program.

Seniors continue to be extremely vulnerable to physical abuse, financial fraud, scams and exploitation, caregiver neglect and abandonment, psychological and sexual abuse. Law enforcement and others who work with the elderly community are critical pieces of the puzzle in identifying the signs of elder abuse, protect the community and ensure successful prosecutions.

The one-day training session will be held in person from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Broward State Attorney’s Office in the County Courthouse at 201 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, on the following dates:

Tuesday February 15, 2022

Tuesday March 8, 2022

Tuesday April 12, 2022

Tuesday May 17, 2022.
