Statement from Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor:

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Markenzy Lapointe to be the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, making him the first Haitian-American to serve in the top federal law enforcement position for the region. He will be sworn into office in the coming weeks.

“Markenzy Lapointe has served the South Florida community and this nation with distinction and honor. I am proud to call him my friend. This is a historic appointment and a moment that will inspire many of our young people.

As a skilled prosecutor, as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, as an immigrant and as a Black man, he reflects so many aspects of our community. He has earned his strong reputation through his commitment to public service and his dedication to ensuring public safety and equal justice.
