Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor issues statement on abortion rulings
June 30, 2022
In response to requests for comment about today’s ruling on Florida’s abortion law and the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade, Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor issued the following statement:
“It would be premature to anticipate what decisions Florida’s appellate courts and state legislators will make in the future.
I am a staunch defender of the rights of women and the rights of medical professionals and I will continue to prioritize fighting violent crime and promoting justice and safety for all in our community.
Reversing Roe v. Wade turns the clock back 50 years. More than a generation of women have been born and raised in a society that recognized their right to make their own decisions regarding their bodies in consultation with their medical professionals. This is not a step forward of an enlightened society.
I hope and pray that our legislators and our courts do everything they can to avoid placing every Florida woman in healthcare jeopardy. We as a society must protect the rights of women to make decisions affecting their own bodies — now and forever.”
