ASSISTANT STATE ATTORNEY
Starting Salary: $68,000

This position is open to entry level and experienced attorneys.
Applicants must be a graduating 3L or a member in good standing with The Florida Bar. Applicants must possess a strong interest in being a trial lawyer and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Applicants must have the time management and organizational skills required to manage a large volume caseload. Applicant must be able to work independently and as a team member.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal but are not limited for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conduct jury trials, non-jury trials, preliminary and pretrial hearings, and other related courtroom proceedings
- Investigate, evaluate, and prepare cases for trial
- Legal research and writing
- Communicate with and serve as a liaison to victims, their family members, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel
- All other case-related tasks as needed

LEGAL ASSISTANT II
Salary: $33,578/year, plus benefits
F/T Position: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Description:
Join the State Attorney’s Office team as a Legal Assistant. This position will go to a team player who is able to perform a variety of complex, confidential tasks and work well under pressure while providing outstanding clerical support to several attorneys.
Duties include typing, filing and other clerical tasks; computer data entry; processing of e-filings; telephone communications with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel; maintaining the attorney’s calendar and scheduling depositions; managing daily time-sensitive mail; updating case files using our in house case management software; issuing subpoenas and e-filing motions and orders with the courts; assisting attorneys with routine and detailed tasks related to criminal court proceedings; and other tasks as assigned by the assistant state attorneys or the support staff supervisor.
Requirements:
Candidates must have excellent communication skills (both oral and written), office experience, and work well in a team environment. Candidates must be highly motivated, extremely organized, and be able to handle confidential matters with the utmost discretion. We are looking for self-starters who accept challenges, work well under pressure, and require minimal supervision after training. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with the criminal justice system.
Applicant must be a high school graduate and have two years of secretarial/clerical experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A qualifying typing and data entry test will be administered by our office.
