ASSISTANT STATE ATTORNEY

Starting Salary: $68,000

This position is open to entry level and experienced attorneys.

Applicants must be a graduating 3L or a member in good standing with The Florida Bar. Applicants must possess a strong interest in being a trial lawyer and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Applicants must have the time management and organizational skills required to manage a large volume caseload. Applicant must be able to work independently and as a team member.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal but are not limited for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Conduct jury trials, non-jury trials, preliminary and pretrial hearings, and other related courtroom proceedings
  • Investigate, evaluate, and prepare cases for trial
  • Legal research and writing
  • Communicate with and serve as a liaison to victims, their family members, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel
  • All other case-related tasks as needed

SAKI Site Coordinator (Sexual Assault Kit Initiative)

Salary: $65,000/year (This is a grant-funded position)

Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or criminal justice

Description:

The Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Site Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of communication between the Broward State Attorney’s Office, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory, the Nancy J. Cotterman Center personnel assigned to the SAKI initiative, and law enforcement agencies. The Coordinator will also coordinate and support all the activities of the Broward SAKI Task Force and maintain data required for compliance with reporting requirements.

The Coordinator will be supervised by the Assistant State Attorney in Charge of the Sexual Battery Unit.

Examples of Work Performed include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of the SAKI Task Force
  • Assist in the creation of protocols for implementation of trauma-informed and survivor-centered response to the investigation of sexual assault cold cases
  • Provide guidance and support to the Task Force in developing and/or updating the Task Force protocols
  • Assist the Task Force by helping to convene regular meetings, plan meeting agendas, and take minutes
  • Assist in formalizing and executing Memos of Understanding with partner organizations as needed
  • Collect data needed for performance reports
  • Facilitate training requests
  • Communicate with grantor and TTA assigned by the Bureau of Justice Assistance
  • Collaborate with the Broward State Attorney’s Office Grants Office to ensure compliance with all components of the project

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or criminal justice
  • At least three years of experience in victim services, prosecutor’s office, or law enforcement
  • Experience working with victims of sexual assault, as well as law enforcement agencies
